An article on MakeUseOf.com talks about Parrotfish by embed.ly, an extention that allows web-based Twitter users to see multimedia links on their Twitter timeline without having to click away.
Me being a complete Twitter junkie, I thought this sounded like a neat tool. I downloaded Parrotfish for Safari (it is also available for Chrome and Firefox) and decided to test it out. A lot of my Twitter friends use Tumblr, a multimedia-heavy blogging site. The site has an option to cross-post to Twitter, so their posts often come up on my Twitter feed. By using Parrotfish, I'm able to see what they've posted on Tumblr without having to click on the links to visit their blogs.
I actually don't use Twitter on the web very often. I usually sign into to Twitter using TweetDeck, which is a software application you can access from your desktop. They do have a pro version of embed.ly that you can access with TweetDeck, but I'm not willing to shell out the $20 per month to get it. Even so, you can still preview some media on TweetDeck.
Overall I think Parrotfish is a neat idea and I will continue to use it. The downsides are that it can be slow to load the media, and that you can't see the media directly in your timeline; you still need to click on the individual tweet itself in order to see it.
